Lionfish spearing is an initiative that is encouraged to reduce the abundance of these invasive species. In Belize, Lionfish spearing can be done recreationally, for consumption, and for processing. Most recently, National Fishermen’s Cooperative has announced that they are now processing lionfish. The cooperative now accepts whole gutted lionfish as well as lionfish fillet.
